HI THERE! My name is Maddi Jones but my students call me "Miss Jones". I am a  Primary School Teacher with 5 years professional experience in Queensland classrooms.

I studied at Griffith University completing a Bachelor of Primary Education degree course with a particular focus on Mathematics and Science strands. In 2017, I graduated mid-year to experience a term in Year 6 and then in Year 1. In 2018, I obtained my first contract as a Year 5 teacher. In 2019, I received permanency and have been teaching Year 3 ever since! In 2020, I returned to university at Queensland University of Technology to study a Masters in Education (STEM Education)!

Many people ask the question, "why be a teacher?". Well that is simple. Not only was it a family tradition but also I wanted to continue what my mother had started. I aim to be apart of the inspirational team of leaders that guide the next generation to success. I also want to share my love for learning. By exploring every aspect of the world, I aim to develop students wonder and awe about all living, moving, working components of the universe and I will do so using the subjects of mathematics, science and technology.

As an educator, I aspire to give all students the opportunity to leave their own mark and excel in their dreams. A quote I have lived by throughout my life and will continue to use in my future educational endeavour is:

"Leave your mark! For those who leave a trail of glitter are never forgotten"

The purpose of this ePortfolio is to document the growth of my professional competencies which are aligned to the Australian Teaching Standards at a Graduate and Proficient Level.

This ePortfolio is essential for my preparation for interviews for employment and is the basis for further development and reflection which is critical towards future career stages. This ePortfolio contains evidence that covers a broad scope of knowledge, practice and engagement across the seven standards and descriptors. Such evidence may include, for example, student conference outcomes, student work samples demonstrating progress, assessment records demonstrating progress over time, records of feedback, teacher reflection on student learning and needs, and student reflections.

2019 Highlights

Word of 2019: ADVENTURE

From a new team and year level to tacking PBL/inquiry for the first time, to reinventing the Year 3 camp to a whole new level, to receiving an offer to start a Masters degree in STEM, to training and watching a new bunch of Year 5 kiddos compete in sumo, to continuing our WER teams for the second year running AND competing in Shanghai and back again to hosting and MCing our first FLL regional competition - WOW its been a year.

To say 2019 was a big year is an understatement... however, I wouldn't trade it for the world. So many new faces and experiences and pathways to explore. My passion for teaching STEM was ignited further.
